More thoughts.... 7/24

So frustrated that my original thoughts disappeared due to the spinning beach ball of death :(. I had a good stream going. Riffing away...Below is what I can remember...

gdouglasbundy.me - thank you for showing us the light. I am so thrilled he shared his website:
 G Douglas Bundy
We had been talking about tools versus enlightenment. This was so amazing!
Google tools tab on Google Drive can become a game changer. Teach Creative Capacity

All the new information today makes me confused about my final project. There are so many possibilities. New things can be in the world's hands in 10 minutes!

Philosophy
Motivation
Brain Research
The Arts
Play (gaming)

CHANGE THE GAME! by using the game -
10,000 hours between the ages of 10 and 18 playing online video games.

USE THE TOOLS! SHARE THE MESSAGE! Be the curator

A whole new Mind - Daniel Pink - Design disposition is the key to the future. The Arts has a place.

Teaching Thoughtfully - Keep your work and teaching "Motivational" Check out this website:
Teach Thought

Great quote today - "If you ever have a truly original thought, you don't have to worry about anyone stealing it because you will be busy trying to shove it down someone's throat." - This is so true because the really original and creative thinkers are the ones that are looked upon with suspicion and scorn...

Computer resources for kids... Copy in a standard and find a module! Check out the student source website from Beaverton that includes student created modules built on Common Core Standards:

  1. Nice job embedding the video...if you want to change your project, feel free to do so. I knew some would after today. Hope you were able to capture most of what you had originally written.

  2. I feel your pain Cherie-Anne---the revolving beach ball is a source of frustration!!
I agree with you that Beaverton's "Student Source" webpage is very a very empowering tool. I plan on introducing my staffs to this site while embedding Flipped PD as a resource to develop insight to expand their knowledge while, hopefully, also finding tools to share with their students.

  3. I had the beach ball of death yesterday in class too...luckily I was able to ride it out for about 8 minutes and my typing stayed. Sorry it did not for you :-(

G's presentation was amazing & I think it would be awesome if he taught a class at L&C.

  4. Ah, the spinning beach ball of death! I love that language...it makes me smile! (Not smiling at your loss of work, but rather at your use of language, of course!) I completely resonate with the thoughts/feelings you were able to recapture and share in this post. What an incredible opportunity we have had with G Douglas Bundy and Todd Frimoth! I, too, have morphed my final project idea based on the presentation today. My thoughts had been quite linear and "small picture" in an attempt to ensure some measure of success (I was thinking about an action plan for self-training on the SMART Board and implementation of use in my classroom), but now that feels too small and narrow. I hope to incorporate more technology into my action plan...even if I set the bar a little higher than reality will allow me to reach. I would always rather strive for a lofty goal and fall a little short than to set my sights lower and accomplish less.

  5. I wrote down that same quote about original ideas.
The other one I wrote down was about having 25 kids, who will be in Gr 5 next year, who know more about the CCSS than most teachers do! Maybe our teachers should be making computer games!
